Northumberland's Beaches

I've stood on beaches all over the world.

From Australia and Hawaii to Mexico and the Caribbean, I've been lucky enough to experience some truly incredible coastlines.

Yet, time and time again, I find myself coming home to Northumberland.

There's something magical about our beaches. Miles upon miles of soft golden sand stretch along the coastline, often with hardly another person in sight. On many days, the only footprints belong to dog walkers, horse riders and the occasional adventurous swimmer.

No crowded promenades.

No rows of sunbeds.

Just endless space, fresh sea air and the sound of the waves.

Of course, we don't always enjoy tropical weather! But somehow that's part of the charm. I've walked these beaches in blazing sunshine, wrapped up against winter winds, and even in the pouring rain. Every season reveals a different kind of beauty, and every visit leaves me feeling calmer than when I arrived.

My Happy Place... and My Sad Place

If I had to choose one beach above all the others, it would be Druridge Bay.

It's a place that has seen me through some of life's happiest moments, but also some of the hardest.

When life feels overwhelming, this is where I come.

I walk along the shoreline, camera in hand, usually with my dogs by my side, watching the light change across the sea and the dunes. Every visit is different, and somehow I always come away with another photograph that reminds me just how beautiful Northumberland can be.

Since losing my beautiful Gracie, Druridge Bay has become even more special. It's where I go to think, to remember and to find a little peace again.

While Druridge Bay holds a special place in my heart, it's only one of many incredible beaches waiting to be explored.

Take a stroll beneath the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, discover the sweeping sands of Embleton Bay, wander along Beadnell's horseshoe-shaped harbour, enjoy the peaceful beauty of Low Newton-by-the-Sea, or watch the fishing boats return to Craster after a walk to Dunstanburgh Castle.

Each beach has its own personality, and each one has a story to tell.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a family day out, somewhere to exercise the dog or simply a place to watch the waves, I genuinely believe Northumberland has some of the finest beaches in Britain.
