Discover Somerset
For me, Somerset has always been a place to slow down.
Although I first travelled there to spend time with my dad, it quickly became much more than somewhere to visit. I based myself just outside the beautiful market town of Langport, overlooking the stunning Somerset Levels, and from there I began exploring everything this wonderful county has to offer.
From the iconic Glastonbury Tor rising above the Levels to the magnificent Wells Cathedral, the dramatic beauty of Cheddar Gorge and the charming villages dotted throughout the countryside, Somerset is full of history, character and breathtaking scenery.
The Somerset Levels are unlike anywhere else in Britain. Wide open landscapes, winding rivers and spectacular sunsets create an ever-changing view that never grows old. If you're lucky, you'll even spot hot air balloons drifting across the evening sky—a sight I'll never forget.
One of the things I love most about Somerset is its variety. One day you can be wandering through historic towns or exploring the Mendip Hills, and the next you can be enjoying the coast, visiting traditional cider farms or relaxing in one of the county's welcoming country pubs.
It also became the perfect base for exploring the South West. During my time there I ventured into Devon, Cornwall, Dartmoor and Dorset, always returning to Somerset at the end of each adventure.
Through Wendy Wanders I'll be sharing my favourite places to visit, beautiful walks, hidden gems, places to stay and practical guides to help you discover this remarkable county for yourself.
Whether you're visiting for a weekend or planning a longer holiday, Somerset has a wonderful way of making you slow down, take in the view and appreciate the simple things.
It's a county that quietly gets under your skin—and before you know it, you'll be planning your next visit. ❤️
